You might want to rethink what you are putting on your skin… from your lotions, to your facewash, to your moisturizer, to your makeup, even your chapstick.
Did you know that 60% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body? Did you know that women eat 6-12 pounds of lipstick in their lifetime!? That is pretty scary! So it makes sense why researchers are finding high levels of parabens, petrolatum (petroleum), and phthalates in women’s bodies.
Parabens are preservatives found in a ton of cosmetic and beauty products. They have been linked to cancer (namely breast cancer), infertility, and a host of other negative things. Parabens are banned in Europe, but not the U.S. Hmmm…. Any way, look for the names methylparaben, ethylparaben, butylparaben, and propylparaben and avoid products that contain them! I went through all my lotions, skin care, and makeup and threw out everything that had parabens in them. It felt good, but was sad at the same time because I had a lot of stuff!!! I’d rather be on the safe side though. Less is more.
Petrolatum is derived from petroleum, is a non-renewable resource, and doesn’t allow skin to breathe… which in turn causes allergic reactions. I have an Avon chapstick called “Avon Naturals” Lip Balm and I read the ingredients and it contains petrolatum. It is one of the top ingredients, which means the chapstick is heavily concentrated with it. Labels can be deceiving… just because something has the phrase “natural” on it doesn’t mean it is o.k. for you to put on your body. Read labels in detail!
Phthalates are toxic petroleum derivatives that have been associated with birth defects in boys and disorders of sexual maturiation in girls (like early onset puberty). They have also been shown to produce liver cancer in lab rats. Phthalates keep plastics flexible, help fragranes bond to surfaces, and helps make cosmetics resilient and colorful. While they seem useful, they are really very dangerous to your body. If you are looking for the word “pthalates” in an ingredient list on a product, you won’t find it. You will just see “fragrance”… which means there are most likely pthalates in the product. Try to find products that contain pure essential oils instead of synthetic fragrances. When in doubt, call the company and ask. I am going to contact ‘Burt’s Bees’ because I like their products (they don’t contain parabens or petrolatum), but they all say they have fragrances in them (usually one of the last ingredients fortunately). I am going to ask if they are natural essential oil fragrances or have pthalates. I will let you know when I find out!
Frightening facts. Guess we need to read the labels carefully. Wonder why Health Auth’s allow these things on the market?
Well, did you contact burt’s bees? if so, what did you find??
jan- i stopped trusting govt and business a long time ago. it’s a brutal circle, and it all boils down to ONE thing: greed.
health care has become an INDUSTRY rather than a human right.
government has been morphed into a corporation, an investor.
and business wants nothing more than profits.
in capitalism, profits are maximized when cheaper products are supplemented over scarce or more expensive quality. less competition means more cheating can be successfully achieved- corporate buyouts result in competitive elimination, and such buyouts have been rampant for some time now.
and why should public health “officials” care? remember, they are running a business now- this might help their own profits.
sounds a lil out there, i’m sure, but i trust no one anymore.
for too long i’ve listened to health experts be ignored after pleading with people to stop overusing antibiotics and and stop using “anti-bacterial” products because of monster bugs.
look at sudden epidemics of new allergies linked to pesticides and unnecessary vaccinations. instead of telling people to stop eating processed foods and start eating more veggies, they’re telling them to get another vaccine, one that hasn’t been tested for more than 6 MONTHS. and now little girls are DYING and suffering freakish and painful illnesses because some asshole corporation wanted to make a profit.
i’ve lost too many people to cancer, and i’ve lost too many people to cancers that were “treated” by killing the body. i’ve heard horror stories of people who were FORCED to undergo “medical treatment”- sometimes via COURT ORDER (wtf!) instead of finding/experimenting with alternative therapies, and who ended up dying as a result of said “medical treatments.”
instead of focusing on prevention, we are focused on the newest pill or shot.
industry. capitals. profit. greed. somewhere along the line, someone has an agenda, and he wants to help his buddy with his agenda, and his buddy, and so on.
